How the municipality of Haarlem (NL) managed to save 1.000.000 Euros without investments

23 Sep 2014

The municipality of Haarlem (NL) replaced their previous lighting, consisting of conventional fluorescent lamps, of several parking garages within the municipal district with new energy-saving, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly LED lighting. A total number of 1500 LED lamps have been installed.

The actual costs for such a big replacement of lamps have been above an amount of 300.000 Euro. However, the municipality of Haarlem (NL) did not have to invest at all. The costs will be paid with the remaining money resulting from the energy savings for a period of 6 years. The municipality did an additional purchase of 1500 LED lamps, which guarantee 65% reduction of the consumption of electricity for the lighting and saving of the associated costs. This results also in additional savings of 200.000 Euro. Among other reasons, such as the long life expectancy of the LED lamps, the total amount of savings of the costs for electricity consumption and maintenance results in a total sum of 2 Million Euros within 10 years.

In the long run, there are only financial advantages for the municipality of Haarlem (NL) resulting from the installation of the LED lamps due to the radical lowering of consumption of electricity and the long life expectancy (100.000 hours) of the LED lamps.

The project was carried out in cooperation with the Dutch company RentAlite Holding B.V., which is internationally known for its technology and huge savings resulting from the RentAlite model (no investment required).
